Weimar
Visting Weimar is worth it in many different ways.
Weimar is the place where Goethe & schiller lived & passed away. Okay, if you don't know Goethe & schiller I would propably ask you to do some reading on literature. ( you can start here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Wolfgang_von_Goethe , but itwa wikipedia) we visited their houses. I like the one of Schiller more. We visited Buchenwald. It's a 2nd WorldWar ConcentrationCamp 8km away from Weimar, where 56.000 opponents of the nazis were murdered (it's a small number if you see the total of 6million murdered, but there was a great number of political enemies killed there, social democrats, communists or members of the resistance). These days its a memorial for the victims. What i find most noticeable of Buchenwald is something different. After Germany was defeated, Weimar was annexed by the USA and then given to the USSR. The RedArmy continued to use Buchenwald to torture and kill their enemies. After that place was misused by the nazis in turning a vacation resort into a murder-machine , the RedArmy came and dare to use the same place some more and put more and more shame on it. Are they any better??? Since Germany is united, this place has its deserved rest as a memorial. Weimar is crazy about Goethe and Schiller.I think every citizen of Weimar is. There are about 60.000 people living there. And 3 000 000 people visting Weimar each year. I mentioned that Weimar is in eastern Germany. So it was seperated from the rest and ruled by the USSR. I am so glad, i was not alive that time. I do not believe in Socialism in any form. And I can't stand seeing what it made out of eastern Europe... I could go on saying so much more. But I don't know where to start and where to end. Maybe i just watch FRIENDS now, because I bought another season (6) there. I learned a lot in Weimar. I am so happy i joined that trip. I am such a lucky girl. |
